about

At the Brooklyn Aquarium I saw a Picasso Triggerfish. I remembered it incorrectly and called it Picasso Tigerfish. When writing, I had the image of the girl roller skating around the flat in the movie Diva, with a big aquarium in the middle of the room; the fantastic Billie Holiday; Picasso in Antibes (correct story or artistic license?); and my experience of creating beside my grandmother Audrey Coon, a prolific multimedia artist. The song was a gift to her, with a nicely written lyric sheet. I sang it a Capella to her and my Grandfather. She was pleased!

lyrics

PICASSO TIGERFISH

Picasso Tigerfish, Picasso Tigerfish
Picasso Tigerfish, Picasso Tigerfish

Blues in the vein of Billie Holiday
the cigarette burns where it lays
hours relax
Picasso darts and plays
Aquarium days
aquarium days

A year spent glancing between the canvas
and the colorful sea
the curator gave him a place by the sea
the deep green sea
distractions of gull cries
and bathers and steamers and yachts
the stillness with the sun falling and rising
sending the boy to town for supplies
when he left
he left all his work behind

Blues in the vein of Billie Holiday
the cigarette rolls from where it lay
Picasso darts and plays
hours slip into alpha states
Aquarium days
aquarium days

She takes her palette
and bleeds one color into another
Her granddaughter sits by her side
mesmerized
fingers itch for acrylics, Craypas
and charcoal sticks
pieces of glass, bottles of glaze
brushes of various hairs and size
scoring tools, pliers and palette knives
cement bags
by portraits hung in the basement

Junk yard iron
chunks of clay in wet cheese cloth
glue, canvases and erasers
rock, paper, scissors
She says: "Now it's your turn,
you paint the scene"
She says: "Now it's your turn,
what do you see?”
She says: "Now it's your turn,
you paint the scene"
She says: "Now it's your turn,
what do you see?”

Blues in the vein of Billie, Billie, Billie,
Billie, Billie, Billie,
Billie Holiday
the cigarette burnt the table where it lay
hours energize
Picasso farts and says:
“Aquarium days,
aquarium days”
Aquarium days
aquarium days
